The Roswell King
The Roswell King was a schooner owned by A.C. Williams & Co., of New London, Connecticut. A schooner is a ship with fore-and-aft sails on two or more masts. In 1884, she was crushed by ice at North Bluff in the Hudson Strait. Her captain and some of his men were rescued by Captain Clisby, of the schooner Era, as other Roswell King's men attempted to save themselves by crossing the Hudson Strait with a plan to walk to the Labrador coast. The wreck was later used by Captain John O. Spencer and AC Williams & Co. as a floating whaling station at Akuliak, in the Hudson Strait.
